What Visitors Say
“People say this golf course offers a challenging layout with a variety of holes and beautiful scenery. They also highlight the greens are well-maintained and roll true, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Other reviews mention the fairways can be in poor condition.”
Last time I came here (96), the course was very young but still tough and beautiful. It had a double wide trailer for a club house. Now it has a beautiful clubhouse and the course is still tough as can be. Greens were fast but did hold. Rough was lush but not overbearing. Most of the bunkers were in great shape and sand was still good quality bunker sand. I did notice that some of the fairway bunkers were unkept, I'm guessing either letting them grow over or turning them into waste bunkers? There were a ton of trees that were down from the recent tornado that went through. This did open up a couple of the holes. Emphasis is still set on a good drive to score well here, usually not a lot of trouble on drives. Greens well guarded, large, and fast. Once we teed off we never saw another group of golfers until we were done. Pete would be very happy with the state of the course today. I do miss all the railroad ties that once were all over the course. The only negative thing I can say about my visit, was that there was an elderly gentleman in the clubhouse where we checked in and he was not very friendly to our group. I've raved to my friends for years about this course, and the first impression they got was of this unhappy person treating us like we were a bother, however the rest of the staff we came across was fantastic and we all had a great day! Totally recommend this to all golfers. Just an fyi this is not an easy course that you can over power. Thanks for giving us a great day of golf!
a year agoPete's layout is incredible and absolutely diabolical. You need to hit very precise shots to hit greens but even then the green complexes are a challenge in their own right. The scenery is excellent and the course is very picturesque. The greens were absolutely in perfect shape. Literally some of the best I’ve ever played on. That’s where the good ends… First, let me preface any further comments by saying that I understand that they just had a HUGE storm blow through that took out hundreds of trees a couple days ago. And I gotta give props to the staff for the massive clean up job they did to get the course playable. I can’t imagine the amount of chainsaw gas they burned through over the last 3 or 4 days. And yes, I understand we've had a brutally hot and dry summer. So they do get some grace for issues caused by these two things. This place cost $92 and sells it self as Top public Pete Dye course. However, it's got issues, lots of them…And definitely has been suffering from long term systemic neglect. Not a single fairway bunker had seen attention for what looked like years, the fairways were in horrible shape, none of the landscaping had been touched in years, signage around the clubhouse was worn out and literally broken, MAJOR drainage issues all around the course, much of the tee boxes were a swampy mess or domed so badly you couldn’t get a flat lie and much of the asphalt all over the property was in really bad shape. For $92 in the middle of nowhere NE Ohio. I’d expect not to see any of the above issues, at least GPS carts and some flowers planted somewhere. But the worst part is the tee box set up. I play with my girlfriend almost every round. The shortest tees they have are 5815 yards, the next tee boxes back are 5873 yards and is just basically a blend of 2 yards behind the reds or straight from the middle tees. It’s the goofiest thing. She had a 393yd par 4 and the very next hole was a 383yd par 5…. The course needs a whole new set of tee boxes. Anyways, I’m never spending my money there again unless something changes drastically. Ya live, ya learn. Thanks for coming to my tedTalk.
4 months agoNice course in pretty great condition. Pretty challenging and interesting layout. Nice scenery with no houses in sight. Nice clubhouse. Has 3 different 9 hole courses (Lakes, River and Maple), so if you play often you can do different combinations and mix it up. If only coming once...go for Lakes and River. Enjoyable round of golf...come back very often.
2 years agoMid October 10.16.25. 1st time playing I live in Memphis, TN and come to the Cleveland area 2 or 3 times a year this is by far the best course I've played in this area and I've played most of the muni and daily fee courses in the metro area. I don't know which was better the course or the staff. Highly recommend. Course was in outstanding shape. Greens rolled fantastic. The staff was extremely proffesional and helpful. I'LL BE BACK
4 months agoHave not played here in several years. The maintenance and upkeep is lacking. The course is not in the pristine condition it use to be in. The greens were in great shape. The general condition for lack of more precise terms is over grown. Disappointed to see that the railroad ties around the lake were rotted away and taken over by reeds along the shoreline. Don’t get me wrong as it was not awful, it was lacking needed attention as it no longer has that crisp and manicured look. The staff was friendly.
