Beautiful hotel! Even for winter this place is wonderful with its indoor pool and hot tub, even though hot tub outside was still open i decided to stay in and enjoy the indoor one. Rooms were very clean plenty of space, clean linen, loved the christmas decor in the lobby. Really enjoyed the little paved trail out front along the lake and the little bit of beach area we could ge down to at night to find some yooperlite rocks! Sat next to the fire pit til super late at night was relaxing and very peaceful with the lake right there. Would love to get one of little cottages next time, definitely will be planning a trip back here again in the future!
2 months agoStayed here mid February. Booked two nights in a room with patio and view at an additional charge. Checked in Friday at 11:30 pm; immediately noticed large machinery (accordion style cherry picker) in the lobby. I understand repairs and renovations will likely be done off season, but I did not pay off season prices; the room was just shy of $200 a night, and there was no note that the lodge would be under construction. The hall our room was in had several dirty ceiling light fixtures on floor, glass laying in walkway, along with rugs and carpets rolled and folded haphazardly that we had to avoid, and maneuver the luggage trolley around. (These items remained on the floor in the walkway our entire stay) We woke before sunrise to attend an event at Spire sports academy. We got back to the lodge at 11 am and finally opened the curtains to enjoy our patio only to find a view of more construction. Our patio was tied off with plastic netting, and nails, screws, and construction debris littered the patio making it not just unacceptable, but dangerous. We closed the curtains and had to head out to make our second event of the weekend. Saturday evening we went to the pool. Unfortunately it was unusable due to high levels of chloramine. I did not swim but sat in a lounge chair watching my kids, no more than five minutes in and my eyes were burning; I couldn’t even open them. I started packing our stuff up when my youngest started coughing uncontrollably and my daughters skin was burning: these are all classic signs of chloramine exposure. We exited immediately and took my youngest outside to get air. ***There was also a group of 4-5 men around 50 years old that came in with a cooler of alcohol, fully dressed, sat in the lounge chairs and just watched children swim. They did not come in with any children and none of the children seemed to know them. Just a warning that there is no one monitoring the pool. Never let children go unsupervised*** We did not utilize the lounge, the lobby was LED bright all night with a loud tv, and construction. I’m not sure if the restaurant was in service as it was not open during any of the times I was in the building (and I was there for at least an hour or two during morning, afternoon, and evening) We booked the state lodge thinking it’d be better than a hotel- we were mistaken . We were hoping to utilize the pool, however, since it was unusable I could have just booked the hotel closer to Spire academy for way less. I didn’t stay the second night since I wasn’t enjoying the lodge and our appointments were complete. my roommate did stay the second night, and filed a complaint with the front desk in the morning. We were reimbursed partial payment, which still leaves us paying more than booking the entire weekend elsewhere. Maybe these state lodges aren’t as nice as they were when I was a kid, or maybe I’m remembering them incorrectly; regardless, they just aren’t worth it anymore. The customer service was nice. Employees were friendly.
2 weeks agoWe stayed for two days in February. The location is great, right on Lake Erie. Everything was snow covered and gave the lodge a winter wonderland look. The room was clean and the staff very friendly. We ate at the restaurant three times and were happy with each meal. They have "pinched potatoes" for breakfast. I have never heard of them but later learned they are a specialty of the lodge. They are small boiled potatoes, fried and seasoned, then slightly smashed. I thought they were very good. We had filet one night and they were cooked perfectly. I also enjoyed the breakfasts. The lodge also offers a wine shuttle that visits three local wineries. Tom, our driver was knowledgeable and friendly. They also offer snow shoes and cross country skis for those that want to be adventurous. Now the negatives, and the reason I did not give 5 stars. They had a water pipe burst in the main lobby area. A lift and construction materials blocked part of the lobby. In addition, the gift shop was closed both days. One other thing to note, the path to the outside hot tub was not cleared, making for a slippery path to the tub. Geneva On the Lake is nearby, but everything is shut down for the winter. There are many wineries to check out and if you are into covered bridges, many are in the area.
a month agoVeronica and her team were amazing!! This is a snap of the email we sent to her and her team ☺️ we would absolutely recommend them for a wedding. Hi Veronica ✨✨ I hope by now you’ve received our card, but just in case you haven’t, Rico and I wanted to reach out personally. There are certain moments in life that hold profound meaning and our wedding day was truly one of them. We wanted to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for everything you and your team did to make our day so special. We know there were several challenges behind the scenes (particularly with our coordinator), and we genuinely appreciate how gracefully you and your staff handled everything. Your ability to keep things running smoothly and shield us from those issues did not go unnoticed. From start to finish, your professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail went above and beyond our expectations. Our guests could not stop complimenting the beauty of the venue, the incredible service, and the overall atmosphere it was everything we envisioned and more. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being such an integral part of one of the most meaningful days of our lives. Please extend our appreciation to everyone who helped behind the scenes to make sure the day flowed so seamlessly. We are so grateful to have celebrated our love in such a beautiful space, surrounded by such a thoughtful and dedicated team. With heartfelt thanks, Rico & Chanell Ivy 🥰
4 months agoI was very excited to book an overnight retreat for me and my husband and the anticipation was not met with any disappointment. The location along the shores of Lake Erie, with stunning views from our room, the pools, and the on-site dining were exceptional. The lobby was very welcoming and grand and we were met with friendly staff who answered all of our questions both in person and via text, which was very convenient. We appreciated the wonderful on-site amenities including a large and beautiful outdoor pool and cozy hot tub, beautifully laid out bocce, oversized chess board, corn hole, and our personal favorite - deck shuffleboard. The heated indoor pool and hot tub were also second to none, allowing comfort and amazing views, especially at sunset. Staying in a resort where the pools are actually made for swimming was a treat and we appreciated the very generous hours that allowed us to take advantage of all the on-site outdoor activities, including a fantastic dinner at the on-site lounge. Our room while just slightly worn in some ways, was very stylish, spacious, clean, and comfortable. We're so glad that we booked a room with a balcony, as we enjoyed reading and watching the water from the comfort of the outdoor seating. We loved the complimentary bike rentals that allowed us to quickly explore the next door park and enjoy a beautiful morning pedal through town. These types of services make you feel like your stay is extra special. The s'mores package that we received at checkin to use at night around the many patio gas fire pits also made our stay extra special. Even though we live within an hours distance of The Lodge, we feel our stay was well worth the money spent, as we felt like we were on a fantastic vacation without having to travel far. We highly recommend the experience as a quick get away for locals or for those traveling a far distance. We cannot wait to return!
