I had the pleasure of hearing from Valerie, founder and owner of Yellowcake Shop Clothing Company, at a professional development session. Initially, I was hesitant to attend a session on dressing for success, as these conversations can sometimes be rooted in outdated ideas and stereotypes. However, Valerie’s presentation was refreshingly authentic and thought-provoking. She challenged conventional fashion norms and encouraged embracing personal style as a powerful tool to break down barriers and redefine what “dressing for success” means. Valerie also shared actionable tips for discovering a style that feels genuine and suits your work environment. Her passion and commitment were evident both in her presentation and her collection. I ended up purchasing the crossbody harness, which is a unique piece unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere. I’m thrilled to support a sustainable, US-made brand that champions marginalized communities. I visited Yellowcake Shop’s booth in Chicago after being captured by their beautiful pieces! Valerie and Ella were amazingly sweet and helpful finding sizes for my friend and I that made us feel fabulous. Not only is the shop Latina-owned, but the pieces are handmade and very unique. OMFG I just found the Dopest thing it is this leather Honus gorgeous lambskin so many colors. I got a vibrant bright blue. It is definitely a unique piece that should be completely checked out one of a kind, hot city, urban vibe.
